About us

Celebration upon receiving certificate of Nabta training

Who we are

Nabta means seedling in Arabic. Just like a seedling, people grow best when conditions are right. That is why we invest in opportunities, connection, and a strong community where people can put down roots and grow.

We provide close support to communities in Lebanon through education, employment, and direct support for families who fall through the cracks of the social safety net. We don't provide ready-made solutions from the outside, but rather offer support that builds on what people are already capable of and are already doing.

"Sustainable change begins when people are given the space to grow."

How Nabta Started

Amy has been living in Lebanon since 2019. There, she found love, freedom, and hospitality, while also witnessing firsthand just how harsh life could be. After the 2020 Beirut port explosion, she wanted to do more than just stand by and watch.

She worked in the Lebanese NGO sector for several years and saw what does work there, what assistance is already available, and, above all, who falls through the cracks. At the same time, she had a network in the Netherlands that often had money left over at the end of the month and asked if it could be put to good use somewhere. Nabta began as the link between those two: money that was left over, and people who needed it most.

Mission

Nabta helps communities in Lebanon build a better, dignified future. We do this by supporting local initiatives in the areas of education, healthcare, and community building, always focusing on solutions that are sustainable. We strenghten what people are good at: we support their agency and self-sufficiency.

Vision

We believe that lasting change begins with people themselves, when they feel seen, can draw on their own strengths, and plan their own course for their future and their community.

How we work

  • Building on what’s already working locally
  • Allocate resources where they make a difference
  • Working with local organizations in Lebanon
  • Monitor and adjust as needed

Financial Accountability

How We Generate Revenue

Our revenue comes from private donations, contributions, and sponsorships, supplemented by grants and funding that align with our work. We raise funds through our website, newsletter, and direct contacts, always in a way that is consistent with our independence and our mission.

Management and Use of Resources

Nabta does not distribute profits. All revenue is spent exclusively on our mission: education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and improving living conditions, as well as the necessary costs to carry out that work. We do not hold more capital than is necessary to ensure the continuity of our work, and we maintain a reasonable balance between administrative costs and program expenditures. Board members do not receive compensation for their board work.
